What is Illusion. about?

The story opens at a dinner party in honor of the Queen of Dalmatia. A handsome young man whom nobody knows much about attracts attention by causing a glass of champagne to vanish and to reappear. His engaging personality and his looks make him much sought out, and his skill at cards is prodigious. This young man is Carlee Tharp, a prestidigitator masquerading as a man of leisure, on an excursion from his cheap boarding-house and the vaudeville stage into the realms of wealth. He has fallen in love with the daughter of his hostess, and she with him.--Provided by publisher
