About this document
Artaud on Van Gogh by mirafujita is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Van Gogh was not actually mad, but his lucid paintings threatened the conformist bourgeois society of his time. His paintings attacked not just artistic conventions but the injustice of social institutions as well. Society deemed him mad and had him committed to an asylum to prevent him from speaking uncomfortable truths. His suicide was ultimately provoked by the pressures of a corrupt society that refused to accept his genius.
