Denean Sharpley-Whiting is assistant professor of French and African American Studies at Purdue University. She is the author of "Black Female Bodies, White Male Imaginations: Nineteenth-Century French Narratives on Black Femininity" and co-editor of "Spoils of War: Women of Color, Cultures, and Revolution" (Rowman & Littlefield, 1997) and "Frantz Fanon: A Critical Reader."</p>
