Heat treatments such as full annealing, normalizing and spheroidizing have been developed to improve ductility, reduce residual stresses, and / or improve machinability of steels. The heat treatments are described in terms of the Fe-c diagram and the various transformation diagrams discussed in earlier chapters. Relationships for the mechanical properties of mixtures of ferrite and pearlite as influenced by steel composition are presented in the last section of this chapter.
