What is Coarse Screening in Wastewater Treatment about?
The coarse screens are used to remove large objects from the incoming wastewater before it reaches downstream equipment. The screens continuously rotate with openings that allow water to pass through while capturing objects larger than 6 millimeters. Captured material is collected, washed, and compacted before being sent to a landfill. There are two parallel coarse screens in the headworks building to remove trash and large objects from the wastewater flow.
