This chapter focuses on feminisms and feminist movements in the Middle East, which is a culturally, politically, economically diverse region. It argues that the development of feminist movements and the issues that feminists have dealt with are closely linked to dynamic political cultures that aim to shape gender identities, statuses, and relations. Within this context, state building and religion are particularly significant.
