What is Hydrides of Laves phases intermetallic compounds synthesized under high hydrogen pressure about?

High hydrogen pressure technique up to 1.2 GPa has been used for synthesis of novel hydrides in RFe 2 Laves phases (R = Gd, Tb, Dy, and Ho) compounds as well as in pseudobinary ZrCo 2 -x Fe x and Y x Dy 1 -x Mn 2 Laves phases. Existence of new orthorhombic hydrides HoFe 2 H 5 , and DyFe 2 H 5 , isostructural with YFe 2 H 5 , was found, whereas GdFe 2 H 5 and TbFe 2 H 5 kept the cubic C15 lattice. Pseudobinary Zr(Fe x Co 1 -x ) 2 D y (2 ≤ y ≤ 4) hydrides were synthesized and their stability was discussed as a function of Fe/Co content. It was revealed that the formation of non-interstitial YMn 2 H 6 -type Fm-3m hydrides is possible in the whole range of pseudobinary (Y x Dy 1 -x )Mn 2 compositions.
