This study analyzed samples from over 16,000 people in 10 US sites between March and May 2020 to detect antibodies for SARS-CoV-2. The proportion of people with antibodies ranged from 1.0% in San Francisco to 6.9% in New York City. The estimated actual number of infections in each location was 6 to 24 times the number of reported COVID-19 cases, suggesting the number of infections is much higher than reported.
