What is Metaheuristics for Solving the Wind Turbine Placement Problem about?
The artificial gorilla troops optimizer (AGTO) is one of the recently developed nature-inspired optimization algorithms. AGTO was first developed for solving continuous optimization problems. Transfer functions are used to convert continuous optimization algorithms to binary optimization algorithms. Binary search space values are converted by seventeen transfer functions in the literature from continuous search space values. In this chapter, seventeen newly proposed binary variants of AGTO (BAGTO1-BAGTO17) are used for solving the wind turbine placement problem (WTPP). A 10×10 grid-type WTPP that has 100 dimensions is solved by these seventeen binary variants of AGTO. The experimental results show that some binary variants of AGTO produced eligible solutions for WTPP. BAGTO9, BAGTO10, and BAGTO16 are the top three variants in terms of mean final rankings. Additionally, BAGTO10, BAGTO17, and BAGTO9 are the top three variants in terms of Friedman’s test values. The convergence graphs support the experimental results.
