What is Libya about?
Libya has very little water resources due to its arid climate, with less than 5% of the country receiving over 100mm of rain annually. In the 1950s, extensive freshwater aquifers were discovered under the desert in southern Libya. In 1983, Libya launched the Great Man-Made River Project to tap into these desert aquifers and supply water through thousands of kilometers of pipelines to coastal cities and for agriculture, providing water for most of Libya
