Wilfred Owen (1893-1918) was a British poet and soldier. He was born in Oswestry, Shropshire and educated in Birkenhead and Shrewsbury. He began writing poetry at age 17 and taught English in France before enlisting in the British Army in 1915. He served as an officer in the Manchester Regiment on the Western Front and was promoted to lieutenant.
