What is Microcomputer Applications For Calculus about?

Microcomputers are fast becoming an integral part of university instruction. This book is a guide for using the microcomputer to augment a traditional calculus course. As such, it is not intended to replace a calculus text. The intent is rather to illustrate how the microcomputer can be used to illuminate some of the ideas in the calculus. Therefore, this book can be used in conjunction with any calculus textbook. Appendix B contains cross-references of selected topics in this book with some of the publisher's currently used calculus texts. I have attempted to isolate topics in the calculus where the microcomputer can be used to the students' and instructor's advantage. The selection of such topics is clearly a matter of judgment and, to a certain extent, personal taste. I have found the microcomputer a useful tool in teaching the topics included in this book. An informal mode of presentation is used and very little mathematics, other than that contained in any calculus text, is introduced.
