Contrastive analysis (CA) is a linguistic enterprise aiming at producing inverted (i.e., contrastive not comparative) twovalued typologies and founded on the assumption that languages can be compared (James, 1980: 3). In the past few decades, contrastive studies have been performed in various linguistic models, ranging from traditional grammar to structural grammar, and then to generative-transformational grammar (Krzeszowski, 1990: 107). However, after the 1970s, contrastive analysis suffered a decline in popularity (Hasselgård, 2020). In this context, cognitive linguistics is a new and valuable attempt to bring theoretical rationality and practical utility to the revival of contrastive studies. This volume based on cognitive linguistics offers a rich investigation of the comparison of English and Chinese semantics. There are 10 chapters in this monograph, which can be logically divided into three parts, namely, an introduction, three tertium comparationis 1 , as well as a concluding remark.
