Hard hats have an expiration date of 3 years from the date of manufacture or issue, whichever is sooner. The date of manufacture is stamped on the inside of the shell, while the date of issue should be written on a sticker inside. Storing hard hats in direct sunlight or heat can deteriorate the protective quality and cause them to shatter. Mines are recommended to develop systems to regularly replace hard hats and harnesses and educate employees on proper storage to protect the equipment.
