## Abstract The paper reports on the current status of work on the conventionally excavated Mauls Tunnel and the mechanically bored Aicha Tunnel and presents the results of the geological, hydrogeological and geotechnical documentation. The knowledge gained from the investigation works will have great significance for the design and the implications for the construction of the main bores of the Brenner Base Tunnel. The example of the failure in the Aicha Tunnel is used to describe the measures to find the cause and the consequences for risk management are explained. Der Beitrag berichtet über den aktuellen Stand der Bauarbeiten am konventionell aufgefahrenen Tunnel Mauls und dem maschinell aufgefahrenen Tunnel Aicha und stellt die Ergebnisse der geologischen, hydrogeologischen und geotechnischen Dokumentationen vor. Hinsichtlich der Auswirkungen auf das Design und der Folgerungen für den Bau der Hauptröhren des Brenner Basistunnels sind die bisher gewonnenen Erkenntnisse aus den Erkundungsarbeiten von sehr wesentlicher Bedeutung. Am Beispiel eines Schadensfalls im Tunnel Aicha werden Ergebnisse der Maßnahmen zur Klärung der Schadensursache vorgestellt und Auswirkungen auf das Risik
