The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. It involves dragon boat races commemorating the death by drowning of the poet Qu Yuan. The boats are decorated as dragons and teams race while drumming, hoping to ensure good luck in the coming year. It was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2009.
