Historically, many different definitions for premature ejaculation (PE) have been proposed , but these definitions were not based on scientific data and lacked diagnostic criteria. In 2014, the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) developed an evidence-based unified definition for lifelong and acquired PE, in order to overcome the limitations of previous definitions 3 .
