This document discusses the establishment of the Empire of Nicaea after the Fourth Crusade sacked Constantinople in 1204. Theodore Laskaris, son-in-law of the deposed Byzantine Emperor Alexius III, fled Constantinople and established the Empire of Nicaea in Bithynia.
