The period of Scholastic philosophy saw the emergence of key thinkers in the 13th century who sought to logically organize and synthesize philosophical questions and their answers. The three most prominent were Albertus Magnus, known as the Doctor Universalis for his broad knowledge; Thomas Aquinas, called the Doctor Angelicus for his influential works combining philosophy and theology; and Alexander of Hales, also known as the Doctor Irrefragibilis for reflecting the works of prior thinkers like Augustine.
