What is Rizal about?

Rizal returned to the Philippines in 1887 after five years abroad, but faced opposition from the Spanish friars due to his novel Noli Me Tangere. He opened a medical clinic in Calamba but was forced to leave in 1888 due to threats against his family and friends. Rizal then traveled to Hong Kong and Macao, staying briefly in each city. He observed local customs but found the climate and living conditions unsuitable for long-term residence. Rizal was compelled to leave the Philippines again to safely continue
