About this document
Understanding Saltatory Conduction by Nantha Kumar is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Saltatory conduction is a mechanism of action potential propagation along myelinated axons. It involves the action potential jumping or hopping from one node of Ranvier to the next, increasing conduction velocity without increasing axon diameter. Depolarization at one node is sufficient to depolarize the adjacent node to threshold, triggering an action potential and propagating the signal in a saltatory, or hopping, fashion down the axon. This mechanism was discovered by Tasaki and Huxley and reduces energy
