What is Thermodynamics of Superconductors about?
The Meissner effect is only perfect in some superconductors. In the socalled type II superconductors, with a high applied field, the thermodynamic equilibrium state is one in which normal metallic regions appear within the superconducting material. Tubes of normal material are arranged in a hexagonal lattice, called an Abrikosov lattice, named after its discoverer (Nobel prize in 2003).
