The document discusses different types of brain hematomas. An epidural hematoma (EDH) is a collection of blood between the skull and the dura mater. It most commonly occurs in the temporal fossa after a temporal bone fracture lacerates the middle meningeal artery. Symptoms include loss of consciousness followed by a lucid interval. EDHs are diagnosed with CT scans and treated by surgically evacuating hematomas over 30cc to relieve pressure and prevent brain herniation.
