The Great Fire of London began in the early morning of September 2nd, 1666 in a small bakery on Pudding Lane. The fire spread rapidly through London as most houses were made of wood and the wind blew flames and sparks everywhere. Though citizens tried to contain it with buckets of water and fire breaks, the fire was out of control by 8 AM and continued to burn for three days, destroying 80% of the city including over 13,000 houses and 89 churches before stopping.
