What is Guernica: Picasso about?

Pablo Picasso painted Guernica in 1937 in response to the bombing of Guernica, a Basque town in northern Spain, by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy at the request of the Spanish Nationalists. The painting depicts the suffering inflicted on innocent civilians during wartime and has become a symbol of the tragedy of war and an embodiment of peace. Through Guernica, Picasso was able to powerfully share his anti-war message and influence society.
