The 1934 Nepal-India earthquake, measured at 8.0 magnitude, caused widespread damage across northern Bihar, India and Nepal. The epicenter was located in eastern Nepal near Mount Everest. Over 10,000 people were killed with the most damage occurring from Purnea, India to Champaran, India and from Kathmandu, Nepal to Munger, India. Major towns in Nepal like Kathmandu were severely damaged with buildings collapsing. Significant ground effects like sand fissures and liquefaction occurred over 300 km.
