RNAi refers to introducing double stranded RNA (dsRNA) that is homologous to a gene to specifically interfere with its expression and produce null or hypomorphic phenotypes. The use of dsRNA, rather than single stranded antisense RNA, is the interfering agent. It is highly specific and only a small amount is required per cell for effective interference.
