171e Raman spec:ra ot' Cb06 '-Ixwe been nxwred under riporous resonance condition and the cscitation profiles of several Kaman lines wrr: obtained in the whole resion of the absorption band. The characuxistic feature of the escitation profiles indicates the occurrence of the Jahn-Teller effect in the lowest allowed dcpnerate excited state. Usin ! MO and ncrr~nnl coordinates, tlw Jahn-'f&cr coupling strengths for three osocarbon ions, i.e. COO:-, CsO:-and CcO6-, were citlculated by the perturbation method. The theorctic:ll rcstdts rverc in fair agreement with the experimental results. The deformations of the ions in the lowest allowed exited states resuking from the Jahn-Teller coupling were predicted.
