What is Theory of Donor–Bound Exciton Complexes in Semiconductors about?
## Abstract The ground‐state energy of a system consisting of an exciton in the presence of a neutral effective mass donor in semiconductors is calculated for an arbitrary value of the electron to the hole mass ratio using a variational approach. Both, the conduction band and the valence band are assumed to be simple and parabolic. The variational wave function used is a product of a generalized Hylleras‐Ore type wave function for the two electrons and an envelope function which depends on the hole—positive ion distance only. It is shown that the exciton—neutral donor complex is bound for all values of the electron to the hole mass ratio.
