Chungkai War Cemetery contains over 1,700 burials of prisoners of war who died while imprisoned at Chungkai camp during the construction of the Burma-Siam railway by Japanese forces between 1942 and 1943. The cemetery was originally started by prisoners themselves and is located approximately 5 kilometers south of Kanchanaburi in Thailand. It is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to honor those who died in captivity during the railway
