About this document
Circadian Clocks and Suprachiasmic Nuclei by John Damianos is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Our cells contain molecular clocks composed of proteins that regulate circadian rhythms with a period of about 24 hours. In animals, these include proteins like Clock, Cryptochrome and Period, while cyanobacteria use a simpler system of just three proteins - KaiA, KaiB and KaiC. These protein clocks function through a series of feedback loops where the levels of the proteins precisely regulate their own production over a 24 hour cycle. The suprachiasmic nuclei in the brain acts as the central circadian pace
