What is Understanding Cholesteatoma Types about?

Cholesteatoma is a cyst-like lesion in the middle ear lined with keratinizing epithelium that causes bone destruction. It can be congenital or acquired. Congenital cholesteatomas are believed to originate from embryonic rests behind an intact eardrum. Acquired cholesteatomas are thought to develop from retraction of the eardrum due to negative pressure from chronic ear infections or Eustachian tube dysfunction, leading to the formation of a retraction pocket. Cholesteatomas spread along anatomical pathways
