What is Main Condenser in Steam System Design about?
The main condenser receives and condenses steam from the main turbine and turbine bypass system. It also collects other steam cycle drains and vents. During normal operation, it functions as the steam cycle heat sink. It is designed to minimize air inleakage and remove noncondensable gases. It provides a minimum two minute holdup time for radioactive decay before condensate exits. The main condenser is located below the turbine building floor and supported on the basemat.
