THE International Economic Association wishes to express its gratitude to all those organizations and persons who helped to make the Conference reported in this volume practicable. Its holding was made possible by the availability of the general grant of UNESCO. The grant given to the Association by the Ford Foundation to enable it to assist the participation of economists of less developed countries in its work was also available to help in the organization of this Conference. Our sincere thanks are due to those who wrote the papers included here as well as those who contributed to the discussions. A special word of gratitude is due to Mr. P. R. C. Williams and Miss J. Baird who recorded and summarized our discussions. The management and staff of the Palace Hotel at Menthon St. Bernard did all they could to make attractive the conditions in which the Conference was held.
