This study analyzes hospital-insurer contracts using price transparency data from 10 hospitals in the HCA Healthcare system. It identifies four empirical regularities: hospitals contract with numerous payers, contract structures vary significantly, most contracts utilize multiple reimbursement methodologies, and there is substantial price variation for the same services both within and across hospitals.
