The sustainable construction and operation of large stadiums has been widely recognized as an important goal. Existing building sustainability evaluation criteria mainly focused on the energy-saving dimension. However, more dimensions (such as economy, intelligence level, conversion difficulty, etc.) that are quite important for multifunctional buildings’ sustainable operation have earned only limited attention. This research aimed to develop a sustainability evaluation system that integrates multidimensional parameters by taking Chinese stadiums as a precursor to influence the assessment criteria for the sustainable operation of local multifunctional buildings. Based on an extensive review of sustainable building assessment methods in the published literature and expert interviews, this research constructed a stadium sustainability performance database as an initial pool of criteria to comprehensively reflect the environmental, social, and economic attributes of stadiums.
