The CLOROTIC trial evaluated the safety and efficacy of adding hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) to intravenous furosemide in patients with acute heart failure (AHF). Results showed that HCTZ improved diuretic response, leading to greater weight loss and diuresis compared to placebo, although it was associated with a higher incidence of renal impairment. No significant differences were found in patient-reported dyspnoea or mortality/rehospitalizations between the two groups.
