What is Nucleic Acids: DNA and RNA Overview about?

RNA plays a key role in protein synthesis by reading the genetic code stored in DNA. The genetic code consists of combinations of three nucleotide bases called codons. Each codon specifies a particular amino acid. Transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules carry amino acids and have an anticodon that is complementary to mRNA codons. During protein synthesis, mRNA codons are read by tRNA anticodons at the ribosome, where amino acids are linked together to form a protein chain.
