This study investigates the relationship between sleep patterns and cognitive performance in aging dogs, particularly those with canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CCDS). Using polysomnography, researchers found that dogs with higher dementia scores spent less time in NREM and REM sleep, and exhibited distinct electroencephalographic features compared to cognitively healthy dogs. The findings suggest that polysomnographic recordings could be useful in monitoring the progression of CCDS in dogs.
