Khadin is a traditional runoff farming system in the hyper-arid region of western Rajasthan that harvests rainfall runoff from rocky catchments. The runoff is concentrated in low-lying areas surrounded by earthen bunds called khadins. Crops like wheat, mustard, and chickpeas are grown in khadins during the winter using conserved soil moisture. Over 500 naturally occurring khadins occupy 28,400 hectares in Jaisalmer district.
