This study presents a novel, cost-effective, and eco-friendly method for synthesizing MIL-101(Cr) from waste hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) without the use of hydrofluoric acid (HF). The synthesized MIL-101(Cr) exhibited comparable surface area and pore volume to conventionally prepared counterparts and demonstrated high selectivity for carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption. This approach not only reduces the cost of production but also addresses environmental concerns related to chromium waste disposal.
