About this document
Understanding SVO Word Order in English by Emma Emily is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) refers to the basic word order in English where the subject comes first, followed by the verb and then the object. While SVO order is fairly rigid in English, there are some exceptions with different clause types. Studies from the 17th century onward established that the majority of languages follow three main word orders: SVO, SOV, or VSO, with SVO and SOV being the most common as they allow the subject to be first.
