The most important principle for developing a strong embouchure is proper tongue placement and function. The tongue should be relaxed and placed with the downward pointing tip on the top inside of the bottom lip. The top surface of the tongue should touch the cutting edge of the top teeth. Avoid tightening the mouth, squeezing the lips together, or pushing the top lip up. Maintain an open jaw and relaxed shoulders, arms, and neck.
