Can I read The Cycloheptane, Cyclo-octane and Macrocyclic Groups on EtoBox?

The Cycloheptane, Cyclo-octane and Macrocyclic Groups by Waight, E.S. is a scholarly article available to read on EtoBox.

What is The Cycloheptane, Cyclo-octane and Macrocyclic Groups about?

Interest in cycloheptane compounds derives mainly in recent times from investigations into the chemistry of the tropolones and sesquiterpenes such as guaiol and vetivone (see Vol. IIC, Chap. 13) from which can be derived azulenes (see Rodd, C.C.C., Ist Edn., Vol. IIIB, p. 135o). Discussion of the tropolones and other derivatives of the quasi-aromatic cycloheptatrienylium (tropylium) cation, which were dealt with in Chapter XIX of Vol. III of the Ist Edition of this work, is now included in this chapter. Also included are cyclo-octatetraene and other annulenes some of which show aromatic character. Benzotropones, including the pigment purpurogallin, will be discussed in Volume III. Certain alkaloids, such as colchicine, cocaine, etc., also contain the seven-membered carbocyclic ring system; these compounds will be dealt with in subsequent Volumes (see ibid., p. 1442; Vol. IVC, pp. 1849-1873). ## 1. Cycloheptaue group (a) Hydrocarbons Physical constants for some saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons of this group are given in Table I with references. Cycloheptane and its homologues can be obtained by reduction of the appropriately substituted cycloheptene, cycloheptadiene or triene,
