## Reviewed by Laura Estill The latest edition of John Carter's ABC for Book Collectors (revised by Nicolas Barker and Simran Thadani) will be of great interest to both bibliomaniacs and bookworms. As Carter's dictionary explains, "A Bibliomaniac is a book collector with a slightly wild look in his eyes"; the added entry on "Book-worms" in the ninth edition distinguishes between "those that tunnel holes through books, those that eat paper, turning leaves into confetti, and those that attack covers but not paper" (45, 61). With the permission of Oak Knoll Press, ILAB (which, the ABC for Book Collectors will tell you, is the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers) has made the eighth edition ( 2004) available as a free PDF download. 1 The newest edition, however, is not to be missed, both because it is a beautiful material object but also because it holds important new content. Readers who turn only to the PDF will miss new definitions, illustrations, some of the characteristic and helpful examples marked with manicules (such as "fore-edge" and "hinge") on the pastedown, and the free endpaper.
