There is little evidence to support such restrictions and much evidence in favor of a wide extension of the nutritional approach to medicine. When Pasteur-a chemist, not a physician-^first pro- mulgated the novel doctrine that microbes may cause disease, he met with great resistance and the medical men of his day would have none of his theory.
