A M10X1.5 2N thread designation indicates a double thread or two start thread. A standard single start thread advances 1.5mm per revolution, but a double thread advances 3mm per revolution since it has two starting points. Double threads are more difficult to produce than standard threads and require a custom tap rather than a stock tap. Double threads are used where quick linear movement or opening/closing is needed with few revolutions.
