What is Numerical Investigation of Photonic Crystal Fiber-based Plasmonic Material for Alcohol Concentration Detection about?

A photonic crystal fiber for detecting the concentration of ethanol at lower temperature was successfully designed based on the surface plasmon resonance (PCFSPR). The design was utilized by Comsol Multiphsyics based on the finite element method (FEM). The propose PCFSPR was designed by silica material, coated by gold material. The simulation results found that the peaks of the confinement loss for dual-polarized (x-polarization and y-polarization) are increase by increasing the ethanol concentration in range of 40% to 70%. Meanwhile, the peaks of amplitude sensitivity (AS) were found for the increment of ethanol concentration. Certainly, this proposed sensor obtained good sensor sensitivity of 91 nm/% for detecting ethanol concentration at lower temperature of 20 °C.
