What is Positive Associations of Histamine Skin Reactivity in Infants with Their Atopic Dermatitis and Their Maternal Histamine Skin Reactivity about?
RATIONALE: Histamine skin reactivity (HSR) is thought to relate to allergic diseases complexly developed by genetics and environmental factors, and we reported that everyday yogurt consumption by infants reduced their HSR; however, clinical meanings of HSR remain unclear, particularly about parent-infant relations. To test our hypothesis that maternal HSR is associated with 1) atopic dermatitis (AD) and 2) HSR in their infants, we performed skin prick tests (SPTs) in parent-infant pairs in a general population. METHODS: This cross-sectional study investigated self-completed written questionnaires and HSR using SPTs. We excluded parent-infant pairs whose infants aged <6 months old with everyday yogurt consumption. We analyzed unadjusted and adjusted logistic regressions and simple and multiple linear regressions, including interaction terms. RESULTS: Infants' AD had significant positive correlations with HSR in the infants (OR, 1.20; 95% CI, 1.00-1.43 and aOR, 1.23; 95% CI, 1.00-1.50, respectively), but not in their parents. Regardless of infants' AD, infants' HSR was significantly positively correlated with maternal, except paternal, HSR (b 5 .407; P < 0.001). HSRs between infant-m
