Photons, electrons, and protons were used to analyze medieval silver coins from Austria to identify their composition and origin. Three techniques were employed: energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis (EDXRF), energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis with a scanning electron microscope (SEM/EDX), and proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE).
